Industry leaders, such as Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Spirit Aerosystems, GKN Aerospace, Hawker Beechcraft (formerly Raytheon), and others, utilize Burnham's capabilities to provide:

  • Tooling Families - high temperature lay-up mandrels or molds, masters, trim/drill fixtures, and assembly fixtures.
  • Composite Eggcrate Backup Structures - delivered assembled or as a pre-cut kit.
  • Fiber-Lok™ Tooling Reinforcements - laminated panels, sandwich panels, tubes, angles, and tees.

Lockheed's F-35 (Joint Strike Fighter) and Boeing's 787 are among the programs currently utilizing Burnham Composite Structures.

Burnham's Quality System is compliant to ISO9002 and AS9100.  Third party registration is currently being pursued for ISO9000:2000 and AS9100, Revision B.

Progressive inspection practices are utilized throughout the manufacturing process.

Inspection techniques include dimensional inspection via CMM or Laser Tracker, ultrasonic inspection, and vacuum integrity (service temperature / service pressure leak check).

Our Quality department also ensures traceability of raw materials are maintained.

Burnham is experienced with a broad range of materials and processes used in the fabrication of composite tooling as well as composite parts.  Burnham understands the cost / performance relationships associated with materials and processes.  The wide spectrum of materials and processes in our portfolio and the ability to compare and contrast options are valuable assets to our customers.

Part models or masters range from low-cost materials, such as wood and foam, to high performance materials, such as monolithic graphite.

7,000 square foot of "Clean Room" is used for prepreg lay-up and "out of autoclave" infusion operations.

Certified Autoclaves up to 12' Dia x 50' long are utilized for composite bonding and leak check operations.

Burnham utilizes various Saws, Shapers, Router, Drills, etc. as required.

Burnham also utilizes area shops for Waterjet, Laser cutting, Painting, Testing, CMM & NDI (Non-Destructive Inspection).
